,000 for fishing platform
The state government will provide $55,000 towards construction of a platform for recreational fishers at Emu Plains, it has been announced.
Penrith MP Stuart Ayres and Deputy Mayor Tricia Hitchen announced the platform was one of two Penrith City Council projects to receive state funding.
The council’s Our River – Regatta Park, Emu Plains project will include construction of a large fishing platform, pedestrian access and enhancement of riverbank vegetation.
“It is vitally important we invest in infrastructure and programs to support and enhance such a popular and healthy activity as recreational fishing,” he said in a statement.
“With the beautiful Nepean River on our doorstep, recreational fishing is an integral part of our local lifestyle with a large percentage of our residents participating in fishing each year, making it one of our most popular outdoor recreational activities.”
The council is also set to receive a $241,000 grant to undertake a local overland flow flood study for the Peachtree and Lower Surveyors Creeks.
The study area consists of the 12.5 square kilometres bound by the M4 Motorway in the south and extend up to the convergence of Peachtree Creek and Nepean River, Mr Ayres said.
