Biodiversity project to strengthen co-operation with EU – Society – Angola Press


The diplomat – who was speaking at a ceremony that served to mark the conclusion of the equipping of infrastructures in the ambit of the Iona Park Conservation Project”- revealed that the EU has contributed to this project with 3.9 million Euros.

He explained that the project is a partnership that involves the European Union delegation, the Angolan Environment Ministry and the Luanda branch of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).  

To Tomás Ulicny, the reinforcement of the protected areas is the pillar of the EU in the protection of nature globally.

The project has received a funding from the UNDP, the Environment Management Fund and the Angolan government, whose global value is of about 7.1 million US dollars., which has enabled the rehabilitation of the Iona National Park.

“We deem it important to see the park continue functioning after the end of this project in 2018, aimed at the maintenance and valuing the infrastructures and equipment (…)”, explained the source.

Tomás Ulicny added that the conservation and valuing of the ecosystems and biodiversity can play an important role in the sustainable development of Angola.


The ceremony was chaired by the Environment minister, Paula Francisco, and also attended by the Tourism minister, Ângela Bragança, the secretary of State for Aquaculture, and a representative of the Namibian Embassy in Angola, among other officials.
