Chicken of the Sea to unveil deli-style tuna slices in Boston


Thai Union Group’s Chicken of the Sea International brand is making a play to compete better in American delicatessens with a new deli-style yellowfin tuna slices for sandwiches, salads and wraps. The company plans to unveil the product next week at the Seafood Expo North America in Boston.

The new line is one of four contestants in the “Best New Foodservice Product” category of the 2018 Seafood Excellence Award contest, the winners for which will be announced on March 11, according to a press release. It will be introduced with two initial flavor varieties: black pepper and Cajun. The products will come in vacuum-packed, two-pound packages containing 16 two-ounce slices, with five packages to a case, the company said. 

Thai Union said the product, which will be shipped and stored frozen, was created in response to the US’ 2015 Dietary Guidelines’ call to eat at least two servings of seafood per week.
