Geneticist Alan Tinch joins Benchmark

Dr Alan Tinch has joined Benchmark’s breeding and genetics business as its new technical services director.

In the newly created role, he will be responsible for developing the company’s technical support platform across a portfolio of aquaculture species.

Benchmark hopes to accelerate its breeding and genetics offering by providing proactive, evidence-based support to help producers optimise results.

Dr Tinch said: “Benchmark has developed a unique strategy to improve health, welfare and performance of the animals produced out of its breeding programmes.”

He added: “Breeding programmes continue to deliver breeds with greater potential performance and customers require more information to optimise health, welfare and value. I am excited to be joining the Benchmark team to help producers achieve the best performance from their stock.”

Dr Tinch studied Genetics at University of Edinburgh and the Roslin Institute, he has over 28 years of experience in commercial breeding programmes and technical support across a number of species including salmonids, pigs and broiler chickens.
