MMEA intercepts fishing boat with explosives
KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) intercepted a boat suspected of using explosives to catch fish early today.
Kota Kinabalu district MMEA director, First Admiral Adam Aziz said the boat was detained at 1.05am during Op Sejahtera off the coast of Kota Kinabalu.
“A MMEA patrol boat spotted a suspicious boat and when approached, the boat tried to flee, but was intercepted.
“An inspection found 300 kgs of fish believed to be obtained using explosives and a barrel of diesel,” he said in a statement today.
However, the boat’s crew managed to flee. Fish samples will be sent to a laboratory for tests. — Bernama
