The second of three new trawlers for HB Grandi has been launched at the Celiktrans shipyard in Turkey.
Akurey AK-10 is newbuild number 49 for the Turkish yard which has previously delivered the pelagic vessels Venus and Víkingur for the company.
Marine superintendent Thórarinn Sigurbjörnsson, who has been overseeing the newbuilds on HB Grandi’s behalf, said that construction on the vessel commenced last winter.
“As this is one of a series, the build speed with this ship is much faster than with Engey, which will be ready for delivery soon. Akurey’s scheduled delivery date is in early 2017.”
All of the work below the waterline is complete, including the tranducers, stern gear, rudder and much else. Once the work on board is complete, the ship will be prepared for sea trials,” he said.
The yard started building the blocks for Akurey towards the end of 2015 and the keel was formally laid early in 2016. The ships’ propulsion system has already been placed on board, as have the winches and other items.
Work will start shortly on fitting the electrical systems, pipework and accommodation.
Akurey has an overall length of 54.75m and a beam of 13.50m. It has a fishroom capacity of 815 cubic metres and will accommodate a crew of 17.
