Mercator Media Ltd has appointed Quentin Bates as the new editor of World Fishing & Aquaculture.

He replaces Carly Wills, who has decided to pursue a new career after 10 years working on the magazine and website dedicated to informing the commercial fishing industry.

“I have enjoyed my time at WF&A and Mercator very much, but it is now time for me to move on to a different career,” Carly said. “I am very happy to be handing the reigns over to Quentin. He is very well respected in the industry and has a vast knowledge of the commercial fishing sector, and I wish him all the best in his new position.”

Quentin recently joined the magazine as a monthly columnist. Many WF&A readers will know Quentin, as he has been involved in fishing for many years. He began his career working in a net loft, and also worked in processing plants and on various fishing boats.

He then moved on to journalism and was the technical editor of Fishing News International for 15 years, followed by freelance reporting on fisheries issues and gear development.

“I am looking forward to returning to World Fishing after an almost 20-year break” said Quentin.

Quentin takes over on 13 September 2016.
