Rescuers search for Indonesian man missing after fishing trip

BINTULU: A search and rescue operation for an Indonesian man, who went missing after a fishing trip near Sha Sua Oil Palm Plantation in Sungai Samalaju here on Friday will continue tomorrow morning.

The plantation worker identified only as Amri, 45, was last seen by other workers at the plantation at about 3pm.

Worried of his whereabouts, the plantation’s management and his wife lodged a police report at 8am today.

Police said the state Fire and Rescue Department was alerted and launched a search and rescue operation today.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the operation was carried out along the Samalaju river but search crews have yet to be able to locate the victim.

The operation was halted at 7pm and expected to continue tomorrow.
